I'm Marina. I work between Prague and Calais, and I photograph the way I'd want to be photographed — unhurried, and left alone long enough to forget the camera.
Seeing
Light first, subject second
I usually find the light before I find the picture. A shoreline, a room, a face — each becomes a different thing depending on what is falling across it, so most of the work is deciding where to stand and how long to stay there. A place settles on its own if you give it time. Asking it to perform never works.
On the day
Very little direction
Sessions are quiet. I direct enough to keep you comfortable and rarely more, because the photographs worth having tend to arrive once people have stopped being photographed. Afterwards the edit is severe. You will receive fewer images than you expect: I would rather hand over twelve that hold than eighty that don't.
